August 2011 is PokerStars VIP Club Mega Month

Last Updated on

This August, 2011, all you have to do is earn 75 VIP Points at Poker Stars and you will be given Silver Star player status for the rest of this month and all of next, through to the end of September. Ordinarily you have to earn 750 VPPS to achieve that status.

What does SilverStar status bring you? You get 1.5 FPPS for each VPP instead of just 1 for 1, as BronzeStar players do. You also get a better monthly rewards rate: 16-18 percent starting the first month at $22 and previous months 19-21 percent starting at $26 instead of 9-10 percent for up to $12 the first month and 15-17 percent for up to $21 the second month.

And what if you’re already a SilverStars VIP player? Then you can gain GoldStars status for earning only 300 VPPS instead of the normal 3,000. GoldStar VIP players the same–earn 750 VPPs for PlatinumStar status instead of the usual 7,500 VPPS. Now, once September ends, to retain the boosted status you will have to earn the normal requisite number of VPPS or be downgraded to your previous status. But for two months at least, you can get a feel for the view “up there” and perhaps an added incentive to try and climb your way back to those heights.

Each status level brings you a better FPP for VPP rate and higher monthly rewards potential.

During VIP Club Mega Month, Poker Stars is also holding a VIP Store Sale.

The Poker Stars World Championship of Online Poker is coming up, and in keeping with the continuing effort of PokerStars to appeal to its growing numbers of women at the online poker tables (and to attract even more), they’re holding a special WCOOP 2011 promotion for ladies only.

Here’s how it works. All women who reach a final table at either a Women’s Sunday event or a Women’s Poker League event will automatically win a free seat in a WCOOP Step Satellite.

The final table players at each of these will earn themselves a $7.50 WCOOP Step 1 Satellite tournament ticket regardless of how they fare at the final table from that point onward. The Women’s Sunday event takes place every Sunday and offers its final tablers a $27 WCOOP Step 2 satellite tournament ticket.

In addition, once the 2011 PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker comes and goes, the woman who finishes highest on the WCOOP Player of the Series Leaderboard will be named Woman of the Series and win a $3,500 2012 PCA Women’s prize package that, just like it sounds, includes free entry into the 2012 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Women’s event.

The 2011 WCOOP takes place from September 4 – 26 and spanning the 22 days includes 62 poker tournament events with a combined guaranteed prize pool of over $30 million.

Poker Stars Doubles Battle of the Planet Prize Pools All Week…And Then Some

This week at Poker Stars is Battle of the Planets Week, taking place from Sunday, August 7 through Saturday, August 13, 2011. During this time, a leader board contest that usually promises players $3,000,000 per year in cash winnings ups the ante to $10,000,000 for just this one week only.

In the Battle of the Planet, Poker Stars players compete in multiplayer sit and go tournaments with varying buy-ins and equally varying prize pools. Each sit and go stakes range is named for a certain planet in our solar system. Each planet has a leaderboard Poker Stars tracks to find the most successful players in each group. Prizes are awarded weekly in two categories for each planetary group, each with its own leader board: one for casual players called the Low-Orbit leader board and one for frequent players called the High-Oribt leader boards.

During this Battle of the Planets week, all of the weekly prize pools have been doubled, ranging from $1,500 for each orbit in the lowest stakes, or Mercury Sit and Gos, to $10,000 for each orbit in the highest stakes range, or Jupiter Sit and Gos.

All players finishing in the top 10 in any of the 16 weekly leaderboards wins a seat in a monthly triple shootout worth $50,000.

You must play in at least 20 BOTP Sit and Gos in any given group in order to be eligible for a share of that group’s prize pool. Low orbit players can compete in up to 5 blocks of 20 tournaments, or 100 BOTP Sit and Gos before being bumped to high orbit, in which players must compete in at least 100 BOTP Sit and Gos to qualify.

Daniel Negreanu Invites High Stakes Poker Players to Daniel’s Room at Poker Stars

Last Updated on

Daniel Negreanu hosts his very own poker room at Poker Stars for high rollers only. If that sounds like you, then you’re invited. All you need is the proper bankroll and you can play cash poker for the kind of money most players can only hope to encounter in tournament play. Daniel’s Room features cash tables at different stakes – all of them high.

While more games at different stakes may be offered in the future, currently Daniel’s Room hosts No Limit Hold’em only, currently at three different stakes ranges: $20/$40 with a $10 ante, $50/$100 with a $25 ante and $100/$200 with a $50 ante. All tables are 6-handed, with a minimum 100 BB buy-in and a maximum 250 BB buy-in.

Players interested in high stakes poker but currently lacking the bankroll to sit in and play can still observe the action in Daniel’s Room as these tables are open to railbirds. Watch how the high rollers play without having to risk taking a hit for it.

Find Daniel’s Room tables by browsing to the High stakes section of the Hold’em No Limit/Pot Limit tab and looking for the red DR symbol. You can also use the Hold’em Ring Game Filter option labeled “Show Daniel’s Room Only”.

Daniel Negreanu, nicknamed “Kid Poker”, is considered one of the best No Limit Hold’em poker players alive. Member of Team Poker Stars and host of the recurring poker TV show “PokerStars Poker Million”, the Canadian poker star has won first, second or third place in no less than a dozen and a half major league poker tournaments, including World Poker Tour and World Series of Poker events.

Poker Stars Road to 100 Billion Nears 65

Last Updated on

The latest Poker Stars milestone hands promotion has begun and this time it’s heading straight for the 65 billion mark. Part of the larger Road to 100 Billion promotion, oftentimes as Poker Stars nears a particular milestone number of hands dealt, they run a promotion offering big cash bonuses to all the players participating in the incremental minor milestone hands leading up to the major milestone, with even bigger rewards for the winners of those hands. The latest of these promotions has been the Road to 100 Billion and currently that road is about to hit the 65 billion hand milestone.

At the time of this writing, Poker Stars has dealt 64,603,040,777 hands and promises to deal the 65 billionth before the month of July 2011 is out. Be playing at any cash game table for any of the millionth hands between 64.7 billion and 65 billion and you’ll win a cash prize. The player who wins the 65 billionth hand stands to win at least $65,000, on top of however much money he or she wins from the pot of that hand.

The amount that players win for participating in a milestone hand depends on how many VPPs they earned in the previous 50 hands leading up to that milestone. Multiply that number by $50 and add $50 and you’ll determine your cash prize for participation in a milestone hand. Double it if you’re the winner of that hand.

In this stage of the Road to 100 Billion hands promotion, PokerStars will honor 300 milestone hands leading up to the mega-milestone of 65 billion. After that, the next Road to 100 Billion promotion will occur as the site approaches its 70 billionth hand.

Poker Stars Invites Players to Challenge Viktor Blom Heads-Up

Last Updated on

Poker Stars invites all comers to challenge Viktor “Isildur1” Blom in heads-up poker with the Superstar Showdown.

The PokerStars SuperStar Showdown consists of a single session lasting exactly 2,500 hands spread across four tables of NL Hold’em tables and PL Omaha with stakes of at least $50/$100. Whichever player wins the other’s bankroll before those 2,500 hands are up is the winner. If no one busts out then the player showing a profit at the end of 2,500 hands is declared the winner.

Poker Stars will not be funding challengers in the SuperStar Showdown, meaning you have to supply your own bankroll. But if you can do it, then this is a chance to play against one of the world’s best and most notorious online cash game poker players. Poker Stars requires challengers to place the equivalent of 1,500 big blinds (or $150,000 at $50/$100 stakes) in escrow with the site in order to secure the match. This indicates to PokerStars and Isildur1 that you’re actually serious about your challenge.

Since December of 2010, 11 players have participated in the SuperStar Showdown (or 10 players really; Daniel Negreanu played twice). Of all those matches only the first challenger, Isaac Haxton, and Daniel Negreanu on his second attempt managed to best Isidlur1. To challenge Viktor Blom to a SuperStar Showdown of your own, email PokerStars at showdown at pokerstars dot com.

You can find the SuperStars Showdown tables under the Showdown tab in the No Limit/Pot Limit part of the Hold’em Cash Game lobby.
