Bovada Adds $15,000 in Freerolls to Monthly Calendar

Last Updated on

Players at Bovada Poker now have a chance to win a share of $7,500 twice each month. And more, that opportunity comes free of charge. It’s all part of Bovada Poker’s newest ongoing promotion, aptly titled: 15k in Monthly Freerolls

In recent posts, we’ve alerted you to numerous big money-winning opportunities at Bovada Poker, including the Cash PerSuit for the site’s cash ring game players and the $750,000 Guaranteed Bovada Black Diamond Poker Open, running now through April 1, 2012. Now we’ve got another one for you: this a new regular on the Bovada Poker calendar, a pair of monthly freeroll tournaments each promising $7.5k guaranteed in prize money, for a total of $15k in monthly freeroll tournaments.

Rather than accepting cash to buy into the monthly freerolls or the qualifiers awarding seats in them, BovadaPoker is taking Poker Points, or PTS for short. Each $7.5k freeroll has a 1k PTS buy-in. But players can win seats in a $7.5k freeroll for much less. Pay just 25 PTS and enter a daily turbo qualifier, from which the best 15 will advance to the $7.5k freeroll. For 150 PTS, you can play in a sit and go freeroll qualifier, running around the clock, with 6 players per event. Or pay 200 PTS and enter a turbo qualifier, also from which the best 15 players will advance.

The $7.5k freerolls themselves take place on the second and last Saturdays of the month and twenty percent of the playing field gets paid out.

Everleaf Network to Leave US Market

Last Updated on

The Everleaf Network is set to announce their exit from the US poker market.  An announcement to that effect should break some time tomorrow.   The network received a cease and desist notice from the US government and their Malta licensing authority has advised them to cease all United States operations.

Various skin operators on the network have taken steps to assure players that their money is safe.  No one knows for sure how US players will be refunded their money, but there are supposed to be  negotiations with the United States in progress now to facilitate that return.

This is all breaking news.  Check with Holdem Poker Chat frequently for updates as the situation develops.  Luvin Poker was the only Everleaf Network skin that Holdem Poker Chat promoted.  Other sites on the network included Minted Poker, Poker4Ever, Raider Poker

February at Intertops Poker Offers FPP Races and Knock Out Challenges

Last Updated on

Head to Intertops Poker this February and you can compete in both FPP Races and Knock Out Challenges, all of which offer the possibility of winning extra money for the play you already enjoy at the site.

Every week in February, from Wednesday to Wednesday, 4 pm to 3:59 pm ET, Intertops Poker will be holding a Frequent Player Points Race worth $6,250, paid out to 100 top finishers. Multiplied by four weeks, making for four such race periods, that combines to $25,000 in cash rewards.

Remember, success in the FPP Race is not about whether you win or lose the poker games you play, be they tournaments or cash games. It’s about how many FPPs you earn while you play and that’s simply a matter of playing more often, for longer durations and at higher stakes.

Starting the 1st of February, Intertops Poker is also holding more Knock Out Challenges. These are bounty tournaments taking place each Monday, Wedneday and Friday. There are two ways to win cash in these events: firstly by finishing in the money, of course, and secondly by knocking your fellow players out of the running. For every player’s $5 + $0.50 buy-in, $2 will go to the bounty on their head. The prize pool at each Knock Out Challenge is $1,000, on top of the bounty rewards. There’s even a third way to win money through the Knock Out Challenges. Every player you knock out also earns you a point on a monthly Headhunter leaderboard, with the 10 top finishers receiving a share of another $1,000 prize pool.

The charity event is going to be done for the pediatric unit at the Halifax Health Medical Center, called Speediatrics.  It is an invitation only tournament which will feature more than 200 total players, with a buy-in of $500.  As far as current names who will be participating, Duke will be the honorary tournament director, Betty Jane France, who is the NASCAR Foundation Chairwoman, and Rusty Wallace, who is the NASCAR Foundation Board Member will all be a part of hosting the event.

In total there are 22 different tables set up, and the plan for the celebrities involved is that there will be one at every single table.  A few people who are already locked in for the event are Brad Daugherty, who is a former NBA player, and Dale Jarrett, who is a former NASCAR champion.  As far as the award that will be given to the winner of the charity event, they will automatically win a spot into the $1,500 Epic Poker League Pro/Am event.  Players can also win their way into the event by registering online at eventsatmgonthehalifax.com.

Speediatrics is a great charity, and this event should raise over $100k just from buy-ins, but there will also be different auctions and ways for people to be a part of the cause.  This company was founded back in 1999 and works with more than $2,000 children per year!  Don’t forget to go online and register for the chance to be a part of this tournament for a great cause!

Official Schedule Released for 2012 World Series of Poker

Last Updated on

WSOPIt’s finally the time for poker players around the world to get excited about the biggest poker tournament series out there.  Caesars Entertainment Corporation has officially released the schedule for the 2012 World Series of Poker, and it’s one that looks more than just a little bit interesting.  For starters, when you look at the schedule you’ll see that there are now a total of 61 events, a number which is definitely higher than last year.  There have also been some interesting additions made in terms of tournament styles as well.  The action will begin at the end of May, on the 27th to be exact, and will run over a 50 day span until July 16th.  Just like normal though, it will kick off with the $500 Casino Employees event.

A few of the newer events that are featured include a $3k Heads-Up No Limit Hold’em/Pot Limit Omaha mixed event, a $5k No Limit Hold’em Mixed Max event, a $1,500 Ante only NLH event, and of course the $1 million tournament called the “Big One for BIG DROP”, which features 11.1 percent of the buy-ins to go towards the charity for ONE DROP.  Each of these events should be fun to watch, and should draw quite a bit of interest as well.  Other additions to the tournament will include the “exhibition events”, which won’t give out any gold bracelets to the winners, but will feature smaller buy-ins.  These tournaments will be $560 events and the first one will be on June 30th.  It is a Doubles No Limit Hold’em event which features two players to a team, and the players will play through each level attempting to build their stack.  The other one is on July 6th and is a bounty event which will place bounties on every player in the tournament who has won a gold bracelet before.

One last interesting thing to note about the WSOP is that the final nine players are no longer the “November Nine”, as they have decided to move the final nine players of the Main Event to the end of October, since the US Presidential Election will be going on in November. The Main Event will be have three starting days instead of four this year as well, but has added about 92 tables to the poker room in order to accommodate all of the players.

The Match and Win Game Board can be found in the Intertops Poker login software under the tab that says Gold Card and the section that says Rewards.

Also, Gold Cards purchased at The Exchange do not count toward Match and Win prize eligibility.

2012 Aussie Millions $100k Event Crowns Winner

Last Updated on

The 2012 Aussie Millions $100k buy-in event drew in only 22 players, but it was some of the biggest names in all of poker who participated.  We saw the likes of Jason Mercier, Phil Ivey, and Erik Seidel all eliminated before the final table was decided, but even the remaining eight had some power behind it.  Our final table included Joe Hachem, Gus Hansen, Sam Trickett, Sorel Mizzi, and Tony G to round out the “popular” players, but we also had three up and coming players in Dan Smith, Mikhail Smirnov, and Nam Le who were right there in the action as well.  The final table was made up of eight players, but only four were going to make the cash when all was said and done.  The total prize pool was a very nice one, with first place getting paid out over $1 million for whoever could outlast the other 21 players.

The action started with Hansen and Hachem leading the field with over 535k chips a piece, and after that the closest was Dan Smith was 346,500 chips.  After that everyone fell under 270k with Smirnov holding 265k, Mizzi holding 228,500, Tony G with 102k, and Nam Le and Sam Trickett rounding out the field with 79,500 chips and 73k chips respectively.

When we finally made it down to the cash it was Hachem, Tony G, Smith, and Smirnov who were the final four.  Dan Smith simply went to work, and eliminated both Tony G (4th place), and Hachem (3rd place) to set up the heads up match between him and Smirnov.  Smith’s hot run continued on as he seemed to hit all of the cards he needed and make all the right plays at the right times as well.  Smith went on to knock out Smirnov in 2nd place, and take home the win and the $1,012,000 first place prize.  Smirnov received a nice consolation prize of $616k as well though.

This was definitely the biggest win of Smith’s live tournament career, but he has had some nice finishes outside of this big score as well. Winning $1 million over a two day span will typically be the highlight of most players’ careers, but before this Smith had won over $600k on the live poker tournament circuit as well.

Who Will Be February’s Carbon Poker Tourney King

Last Updated on

Yesterday, we told you about the weekly King of the Felt contest for SNG players at Bovada Poker. Today, we’d like to remind you of a similar contest for tournament players running monthly at Carbon Poker. It’s called the Tourney King promotion, and the crown comes with a first prize of up to $3,000 and a total prize pool of more than $20,000.

Carbon Poker offers two leaderboards with two sets of prizes in this contest, crowing two Tourney Kings at the end of each month instead of one. There is both a low-stakes and a high-stakes contest in this promotion, so that players of all bankrolls can participate. The low limit leaderboard is for tourneys with buy-ins of $0 – $19.99 while the high limit leaderboard is for tourneys with buy-ins of $20 and higher.

To participate in the Tourney King contest, play in as many tournaments at Carbon Poker as you can and perform in each of them as well as you can. Points are awarded based on a complex formula that accounts for the buy-in cost, number of entrants and a player’s final position in the tournament. Participants also get a bonus multiplier applied to their score for reaching the final table of a given tournament. To place on one of the Tourney King leaderboards, just be in the top 250 points earners at the end of the month.

With January nearing an end, it means a new Tourney King will soon be announced and a new Tourney King contest will start afresh with the coming of February.
