PokerStars Finalizes Deal to buy Full Tilt Poker

Last Updated on

PokerstarsReliable sources have informed Holdem Poker Chat that PokerStars has finalized a deal with The Department of Justice to take over the assets of Full Tilt Poker.  Details  remain elusive but the happy news for poker players is that any deal with the DoJ always had to include the return of funds stuck on the defunct Full Tilt Poker.

The waiting game has begun, but we have never been this close to players getting paid, and at long last there is real hope. To quote Sir Winston Churchill:  “Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.”

Bovada Poker Launches Punta Cana Promotion

Last Updated on

Bovada Poker has just launched a promotion it’s calling Destination Paradise, with that paradisical destination being the Dominican Republic for the Punta Cana Poker Classic. Players can now qualify for the Punta Cana main event which features a $500,000 guaranteed prize pool for as little as $0.66.

Each Bovada Poker Punta Cana Poker Classic Prize Package is valued at $6,000 and includes the $1,500 + $150 buy-in for the main event, 6 nights of all-inclusive accommodations at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, a 5-star establishment, ground transportation between airport and hotel in both directions and $1,800 for expenses, including travel.

There are many ways to reach the Punta Cana Satellite besides paying the $325 direct buy-in. You can start with a cheap seat for $0.66 or start at the next level, the quarterfinals, for $3.30 and up. From there, semifinal buy-ins start at $22.

The Bovada Poker Punta Cana Poker Classic 2012 Satellite Series runs from July 30 to September 16 with weekly satellites starting on Sunday, August 12. Satelites run daily, all day, including both scheduled MTTs and ongoing Sit ‘n’ Gos.

Then all day Sunday leading up to the Punta Cana satellite are several Last Chance qualifiers awarding multiple seats in the Sunday Satellite. At each Sunday satellite, at least 5 seats are guaranteed to be awarded. With 6 such satellites scheduled that means at least 30 Bovada Poker prize packages to the Dominican Republic to participate in the 2012 Punta Cana Poker Classic are guaranteed.

Bovada Poker Vegas VIP Experience $10k Freerolls

Last Updated on

Yesterday we told you about the current Vegas VIP Experience promotion happening over at Bovada Poker where players can vie to win 1 of 2 prize packages each worth $5k to Las Vegas. What we left out, however, was that while you’re on the road to earning tickets in the drawing where the Vegas VIP Experience will be awarded, you can also earn tickets in $10k in weekly freeroll tournaments.

There will be four freeroll tournaments in all in this promotion, each taking place on a Tuesday in June 2012 and starting at 8:35 pm ET. To earn a seat in these freerolls, just earn at least 5 grand prize entries in the Bovada Poker Vegas VIP Experience promotion in the week leading up to a given freeroll.

So for the June 5th freeroll, earn 5 tickets between May 28 and June 3; for the June 12th freeroll, earn 5 tickets between June 4 and 10; for the June 19 freeroll, earn 5 ticketx between June 11 and 17; and for the June 26 freeroll, earn 5 tickets between June 18 and 24. Each freeroll has a $10,000 guaranteed prize pool.

The best part is, that however you fare in the freerolls, you’ll still have those grand prize drawings for one of those $5,000 trips to Vegas.

Players who meet the qualifications for entry into any of the freerolls will receive an email sent to them automatically on the Monday preceding that freeroll with an invitation to play and instructions on how to register.

Two Ways to Make Online Poker More Competitive at Intertops Poker

Last Updated on

As part of its regular schedule Intertops Poker offers two ways players can beef up the level of competition at the online poker table: Pro Tables and the Friday Night Bounty.

Pro Tables are, just as they sound, opportunities to sit in with some of poker’s fiercest competitors. Just some of the players who’ve sat in at Intertops Poker’s Pro Tables and are likely to do so again are Ilari ‘Zigmund’ Sahamies, Antonio ‘The Magician’ Esfandiari, Phil ‘Unabomber’ Laak, Andrew ‘good2cu’ Robl, Alec Torelli, James Obst, Paul Wasickai.

All Pro Tables are real money ring game tables and Intertops Poker runs them at two stakes levels: $5/$10 and $10/$20. If you’re up for this kind of nosebleed level challenge, Intertops Poker welcomes you to sit in every Monday through Friday at 7 pm ET. Railbirds wishing to just observe are invited as well.

Then on Fridays in particular, players pro and amateur alike can face off again, this time in tournament style play, at the Friday $250 Guaranteed Bounty tournament. These take place every Friday at 9:00 pm ET for a direct buy-in of $10 + $1. Of that buy-in $5 goes toward a bounty on that player’s “head”; whoever knocks that player out of the competition wins the bounty, regardless of how they themselves finish in the game.

Players can avoid the $11 bounty and win a seat instead in Intertops Poker’s Friday $250 Guaranteed Bounty Tournament by finishing in either 2nd or 3rd place in one of the two daily Intertops Tourneys Freeroll.

Become Bovada Poker’s Next King of the Felt

Last Updated on

Back in January we first told you about Bovada Poker’s King of the Felt contest. Today we’re here to remind you of this ongoing opportunity that offers players weekly heads-up prizes of $1,000 and $2,500 in weekly freerolls.

The Bovada Poker King of the Felt promotion is for the site’s loyal Sit ‘n’ Go tournament players. To participate, simply place and get paid out in just 3 Bovada Poker Sit ‘n Gos in a single week. To place in a tournament means to finish in either 1st or 2nd place. Meet this requirement and you’ll receive a raffle ticket in a weekly drawing for a chance to play a heads-up match against the reigning King of the Felt (i.e. the previous week’s winner) for a winner-take-all cash prize of $1,000 and the title of reigning King of the Felt. That means you would then be the one returning week after week to try for another $1,000 heads-up prize each time until some other lucky contender finally unseats you.

If a player can manage to remain King of the Felt for 10 weeks running, Bovada Poker will award him or her a prize package that includes a seat in the 2012 World Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas.

In addition to the raffle ticket into the King of the Felt drawing, players can also win seats in $2,500 in weekly freerolls by winning or placing in more than the minimum required 3 SNGs in a week. Place in at least 6 SNGs and get a ticket to the $1,000 King of the Felt Freeroll; place in at least 9 SNGs and get a ticket as well to the $1,500 King of the Felt Freeroll.

America’s Cardroom Guaranteed Tournaments Rundown

Last Updated on

America’s Cardroom holds seven regular guaranteed tournaments each week, many with multiple runnings each week. Guaranteed prize pools in these events range from $300 all the way up to $50,000.

The $50k Guaranteed tournament takes place every Sunday at 7:00 pm ET for a $200 + $15 direct buy-in, although $22 + $2 satellites into the event run throughout the weekend leading up to the event. Some of these satellites offer 2, 3, or even 6 seats guaranteed in the $50k GTD event and some of these satellites are hyper turbo events. At each $50K Guaranteed tournament, the first place winner gets around $10,000.

The $10k Guaranteed takes place every Saturday night at 9:00 pm ET for a $50 + $5 buy-in and allows one rebuy and one add-on.

The $2,500 Guaranteed takes place midweek, every Wednesday at 8:00 pm ET for a $5 + $0.50 buy-in.

The $4k Guaranteed No Limit Holdem Freezeout takes place every Saturday at 6:00 pm ET for a $40 + $4 buy-in.

The $3k Bi-Weekly Guaranteed is actually a Semi-Weekly event (bi-weekly meaning every other week) which takes place every Saturday and Sunday at 3:00 pm ET for a $25 + $2.50 buy-in.

The $300 GTD with a $2 Bounty takes place daily on weekdays, Monday through Friday, at 4:00 pm ET for a $12 + $1 buy-in. From each player’s buy-in, $10 goes tot he prize pool and $2 is applied to a bounty on that player’s seat, awarded to whichever player knocks him out of the tournament.

The $7k Deep Stack Tournament takes place 4 days a week, on Tuesdays through Fridays, at 9:00 pm ET for a $25 + $2.50 buy-in.

Bovada Poker Gets You Into Weekly $100K GTD For $1

Last Updated on

Bovada Poker is currently touting its weekly $100K GTD tournament, the site’s biggest, with a $100,000 minimum guaranteed prize pool. That means it could conceivably be even bigger.

The Bovada Poker $100K Guaranteed Tournament takes place every Sunday at 4:00 pm ET. The event attracts around 500 players, which gives you good odds off making out like last week’s 1st place winner, Jay K who received $20,500 for his achievement. Even 3rd place from that event took home more than $10k.

The direct buy-in comes to $162 but players can win their seat in the $100K through any number of qualifiers, with buy-ins starting as low as just $1. These are called the Cheap Seat Tournaments; there’s no tournament fee; they take place Monday through Sunday, three times daily and award 1 ticket in a $17 semifinal for every $17 in the prize pool.

Then there are Special Qualifier Tournaments for $18 + $1.80. They take place once each Saturday and award the top 30 players a seat in the $100K GTD itself. For the same buy-in and at the same date and time is also a 50-seat Guaranteed version of this event. Players can also pay 1,750 points to enter this 50-seat Special Qualifier instead of paying the cash buy-in.

Following that are Semifinal Tournaments for $16 + $1 taking place Monday through Sunday 4-5 times daily and awarding 1 seat in the $100K for every $162 in the prize pool.

And all this just scratches the surface of Qualifers for the weekly Bovada Poker $100K GTD. There are also three other Semifinal Tournament options and 5 differ Last Chance Qualifiers.

Amarillo Slim Heads Off Into the Sunset

Last Updated on

With his cowboy boots nearby (or possibly on) and his two horses by his hospice bedside, Amarillo Slim, poker legend, took his last few breaths of life before heading to the old cattle ranch in the sky. Or possibly to Vegas.

Amarillo Slim became synonymous with poker in 1972 when he won the WSOP championship after a 22 hour match. In his lifetime he went on to win 3 more WSOP bracelets.

Born December 31, 1928, he died in a Baptist hospice, St. Anthony’s, near his home in Amarillo, Texas on Sunday, the 29th of April, ’12 at the age of 83.

WSOP Media Director Nolan Dalla says he’ll be remembered as the 20th century’s most famous poker player. Part of that was because of his unassailable poker prowess, but another part of it was because of the outlandish stunts he pulled. These include beating Willie Nelson at dominoes for $300,000; Monterey Fats at pool with a broomstick for a pool cue; and Evil Kenivel at golf with hammer for his club. He rode a camel through a Moroccan casino and appeared on numerous TV talk shoes, including The Tonight Show and 60 Minutes.

Unfortunately celebrity also had its price, as Slim was the victim of robberies on 3 occassions: in 2009, 2007, and 2006. He also entered into a plea agreement on a child indeceny charge which he denied to his death, saying the agreement was simply to spare his family a lengthy, ugly trial.

Slim will long be remembered, however, as the man perhaps most responsible for giving Texas Holdem the mainstream status it now bears.
