Guaranteed Tournaments All Week Long At Party Poker

Last Updated on

All week long at Party Poker you can find guaranteed tournaments with prize pools at nosebleed heights. And if you’re successful at any of these tournaments, Party Poker will even reward you with placement on a tournament leaderboard running all month long.

For starters, Party Poker players can enjoy $30K Guaranteed Super Weekdays, Monday through Thursday at 3 pm ET with $99 buy-ins, no fee, and huge payouts. These tournaments also have satellite qualifiers aplenty leading into them, so you don’t have to pay the $99 buy-in to play. There are even points qualifiers you can enter with no cash whatsoever, only Party Poker Points.

The big guarantee of every week at Party Poker of course is its $200K Guaranteed Sunday event. This costs $215 to enter directly (again with no fee) and features, as promised in the title, a $200,000 guaranteed prize pool each time. As with the Party Poker $30K Guaranteed Super Weekdays, players can enter the $200K Guaranteed Sunday without paying the $215 buy-in by winning their way in through a series of satellite qualifiers running daily at the site. What’s more, there are actually a pair of $200K Guaranteed Sunday events: a multi-table event and a sit and go event, with separate qualifiers leading into each of them.

Players excelling in these or any tournaments at Party Poker will find themselves ranked on a monthly tournament leaderboard. There are separate MTT and Sit & Go leaderboards, each with weekly prizes up to $600 and monthly prizes that vary from month to month.

Winners are responsible for all travel and accommodation costs, although multiple wins for an event will be credited as cash expenses for the attending player. Interest in purchasing the site by European investors is leading many to be hopeful.

888 Poker Welcomes Santiago Canizares With Four Poker Challenges

Last Updated on

The newest pro player to be signed by 888 Poker is not a poker pro but a Spanish football pro, Santiago Canizares, player in three FIFA World Cup tournaments and 4 UEFA European Football Championship series’. But just because he’s not a poker pro, doesn’t mean he’s not a fierce poker player. In fact, to prove his poker mettle, Santiago Canizares will be heading up four poker challenges coming up at 888 Poker over the next several weeks.

The first takes place on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 and is called the Canizares Bounty Challenge. It starts at 19:00 GMT and features a low $1 buy-in. The prize pool is $500, plus there’s an extra $100 bounty going to the player who knocks Canizares out of the tournament. There will be a second Canizares Bounty Challenge taking place on August 3 in the same time slot.

The other pair of big challenges featuring this legend of football is the Canizares PokerCam Challenge, taking place Thursday, July 28 at 19:00 GMT. This event has a 5-cent plus 10-cent buy-in ($0.05 + $0.10). No guaranteed prize pool is listed, but players will at least be guaranteed to be sitting in front of their webcams at the same tournament where Santiago Canizares will also be sitting in front of his webcam. Scope out his tells if you dare. A second Canizres PokerCam Challenge will take place at the same time on Thursday, August 11.

This gives players four chances over the next few weeks to get acquainted with 888 Poker’s latest celebrity acquisition and welcome him to the poker playing community at the site recently named “Socially Responsible Operator of the Year”.

Day 2A Ends 819 Players Moving On

Last Updated on

WSOPOn Monday, there were 2,031 players who had made it past Days 1A and 1C to come together to play Day 2A.  Play featured quite a few big names out of the 2,031 players, and also featured some big eliminations out of those names.  At the end of the day it was Aleksandr Mozhnyakov who was at the top of the leader board with 478,600 chips.  There were a total of 3 other players who finished the day with over 400k in chips, Tuan Vo (434,500), Guillaume Darcourt (410,500), and Stephane Albertini (400,100).  All four of these players are of course in a great spot heading into Day 3.

Out of the other big names remaining, Day 1A leader Fred Berger began Day 2A with a little more than 209k in chips, and ended the day with 205,400.  A few other notable names with pretty good sized stacks are Shaun Deeb (294,700), Sebastian Ruthenberg (289,400), and Seinfeld actor Jason Alexander (167,000).  Other players such as Daniel Negreanu (114,100), Annette Obrestad (90,500), Shannon Shorr (110,500), Sorel Mizzi (108,400), Ted Forrest (112,600), Adam Junglen (131,600), and Lee Childs (110,300) were all still alive at the end of the day, and sitting in fairly good position to make a push in Day 3.  Brad Garrett from the hit TV show “Everybody Loves Raymond” also made it through to Day 3, with 67,000 chips.

While big names and former Main Event champions Dan Harrington, Jonathan Duhamel, Johnny Chan, and Scotty Nguyen were eliminated; Jamie Gold and Robert Varkonyi both moved on.  The big story of the day though was 11 time bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth.

Hellmuth didn’t show up for over an hour when Mike Matusow noticed, and sent security to find him.  Hellmuth was in his hotel room, and had forgotten that he was supposed to play on Monday in Day 2A and not Tuesday Day 2B.  He started the day with 11,800 in chips, but by the time he showed up he had been blinded down to 6,975 chips and had quite a bit of work to do.  Hellmuth was indeed able to come back though, and ended the day with a solid 64,900 chips.  While this won’t put him in the drivers seat by any means for the remainder of the event, he is definitely still alive.  819 players have moved on from Day 2A to Day 3, and will now be met up by the players who make it through Day 2B.

Party Poker Holds WPT Paris Satellites

Last Updated on

So far we’ve told you that 888 Poker and Cake Poker are sending players to the World Poker Tour WPT Grand Prix de Paris this year. But there’s still another site running WPT Paris satellite qualifiers and it’s Party Poker, with prize packages up for grabs worth $15,000 a piece.

The Party Poker WPT Grand Prix de Paris satellite series runs from June 20 to August 21. It includes freerolls tournaments that each give out 25 seats in a $3 speed rebuy sub qualifier that in turn sends one player to the satellite qualifier for every $75 in the prize pool. Alternately, there’s an $8 sub qualifier that’s not a speed event, which awards 1 of every 10 players a satellite qualifier seat. Similarly, the WPT Grand Prix de Paris Satellite Qualifiers, taking place twice daily except Sundays when they’re held only once and as a Turbo event, also send 1 in 10 finishers to the final event of the series, the WPT Grand Prix de Paris Satellite, in which 1 of every 20 finishers will get a $15,000 WPT Paris prize package, at least one package awarded at each satellite. These satellites take place on Sundays and have a $750 direct buy-in.

Each $15,000 Party Poker WPT Paris prize package includes, in addition to the $10,800 ticket into the main event, hotel accommodations while you’re in Paris (valued at $2,200), and $2,000 cash to spend as you see fit. The 2011 World Poker Tour Grand Prix de Paris takes place at the Aviation Club de France from September 5th to September 10th.

Party Poker Offers $100K to the Player to Achieve World Domination

Last Updated on

Party Poker is holding a special promotion with a $100,000 first prize and tens of thousands of dollars in other cash prizes and freeroll tournament tickets. The promotion, called World Domination, involves collecting playing cards representing different cities and countries in order to win associated prizes. Every card has a prize, and different collections of cards offer prizes as well. Cards are distributed randomly, awarded as players reach set targets in Party Points earnings.

It only takes 10,000 points to get a card, and only 5,000 to get your first card. The more points you earn, the more cards you get. City card prizes range from tickets into a special $1,000 Freeroll to $20 cash. Earn all four city cards from the same country and get anywhere from $75 to $1,500 cash. Earn all the countries on a particular continent and get from $5,000 to $20,000 cash. And get all 5 continents – Europe, Asia, Oceania and North and South America – and you win World Domination and receive the $100,000 first prize.

World Domination Freerolls will take place September 4 – 6, with 9 freerolls, each offering a prize pool ranging from $1K to $10K. Earn more than one entry into any given World Domination Freeroll and Party Poker will give you 5 Party Points instead, helping you climb higher toward that next target prize.

There are 72 countries in all in the Party Poker World Domination promotion. The contest ends either when someone claims World Domination or August 31, whichever one happens first.

Doyle Brunson Will Play The 2011 WSOP Main Event

Last Updated on

The World Series of Poker Main Event is one of the biggest tournaments in the world, and also draws in some of the most attention, and the largest prize pool for any tournament.  The tournament begins this week, there will be thousands of players in it; one big named player has decided that he will play it after orginally saying that he would not.  Doyle Brunson is one of the biggest, and most well-known names in poker, after saying that he would sit out this years WSOP, he changed his mind and will be playing in this year’s Main Event. Brunson is one of the eighteen living members who make up the Poker Hall of Fame.

The flip flop decision for Brunson was not due to money, but rather his loss of passion for the game since Black Friday.  It has been obvious that Brunson hasn’t been the same lately, as he failed to cash in any event for the second straight year at the World Series of Poker.  He also played in the $50k Player’s Championship late last week, but busted out on day 2.  Brunson is also 78 years old, and it’s hard to imagine any poker player not having to mentally prepare for a grueling 8 day poker tournament (assuming it all goes well for him).  Brunson has had success at the World Poker Tour over the past year or two, but just not at the WSOP.

Doyle Brunson has taken home 10 gold bracelet’s in his time, leaving him tied for second place all-time.  He won his last one back in 2005, and is widely considered as one of the biggest names, and most popular players in the poker world.  Brunson has won over $6 million in live tournaments in his career, further securing his place in Poker’s Hall of Fame.  While Brunson does have a strong game, this could be the end of his live tournament career forever according to him.  Only time will tell how the loss of online poker will affect him over the next year or so.

Class Action Suit against Full Tilt Poker

Last Updated on

Former United States Full Tilt Poker players have filed a class action lawsuit against just about anyone they could think of associated with Full Tilt Poker.  Filed in the notorious U.S. District Court, South District of New York.  the suit names four plaintiffs (Nick Hammer, Steve Segal, Todd Terry, and Robin Hougdahl).  However, the suit states it is on behalf of themselves and all others similarly situated.  The people and companies the suit is filed against is open-ended, and is worded in a way that more defendants can be named at a later date.

Some tidbits to mull over:

Some people specifically named in the suit;  Raymond Bitar, Nelson Burtnick, Howard Lederer, Phil Ivey, Chris Ferguson, John Juanda, Jennifer Harman, Phil Gordon, Erick Lindgren, Erik Seidel, Andy Bloch, Mike Matusow, Gus Hansen, Allen Cunningham, and Patrik Antonius.

For the legal geeks:  “All Defendants, by virtue of their control and ownership of the Full Tilt Companies that comprise the Full Tilt umbrella, and/or their ownership stakes in the umbrella undertaking, are liable for conversion of Plaintiffs’ and class members’ monies and assets (the “property”) held in Plaintiffs’ and class members’ Full Tilt Player Accounts. The Player Accounts and the property therein are currently and wrongfully in the exclusive custody of the Defendants.”

“represent a nation-wide class of Full Tilt account holders residing in the United States . . . Plaintiffs bring suit to demand return of U.S. player funds and for damages . . . U.S. Players’ would never have suffered injury, but for the Defendants’ widespread scheme to commit wire fraud, bank fraud and money laundering in order to pad their own pockets.”

It remains to be seen what impact this will have on any possible sale/bailout.  It seems odd that no one else seems to be reporting more details or rumors about who these “European Investors” are.   The only information to come out is the LA Times story.  Usually rumors swirl and secrets are never kept well in the poker business.  The lack of new information seems to call into question what is actually going on with that whole story.
