Cake Poker Helps Celebrate Super Poker Event of Europe 2012

Last Updated on

The Super Poker Event of Europe 2012, otherwise known as Super 2012 for short, is planned to be the largest poker event, by player pool, in European history, with a whopping 4,000 player field. The event, featuring tables dealt 100% by fully professional dealers, will take place at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin, Ireland from February 25 to 26, 2012, in its Citywest International Conference and Events Center. On the event’s final day March 31, the 8 remaining players will all be flown to a secret spot to play out the final table securely. The final table action will be streamed live over the Internet.

Cake Poker is planning to send players to this event through a series of satellite tournaments starting with buy-ins at just $0.20. Super 2012 Satellites run from November 1 through February 12 at Cake Poker with each top prize package valued at $1,500 and including the €300 + €40 buy-in into the Super 2012 main event as well as a cash stipend to help pay for travel and hotel accommodations and, of course, an official Cake Poker gear pack.

There are daily Super Satellites, Satellites and Semi-Final Satellites, all leading up to a $1,500 Final Satellite. The Super Poker $1,500 Final, then, takes place once per month between now and February 12 (see the site for details) for a $54 direct buy-in, with one Super 2012 prize package going out for every $1,500 in the prize pool. Many of these satellites are rebuy and add-on events.

New PokerStars Time Tourneys Pick Up the Pace

Last Updated on

PokerStars welcomes a new type of tournament to its roster. They’re calling them Time Tourneys and they’re just what they sound like: online poker tournaments with a time limit. Instead of playing to the last player and awarding prizes according, Time Tourneys play until the set clock runs out. Then, all the players still left in the game split the prize pool according to their proportionate share of the chips.

Bertrand “ElkY” Grospelier, a Team Poker Stars pro, shows great excitement for the new format as he often desires to sit down at a tournament online but can’t commit to it because he doesn’t have enough hours to spare. Apparently, ElkY’s sentiments echo those of many PokerStars players.

Buy-ins for these Time Tourneys starts at only $1 and time limits can be 15 minutes or 180 minutes or somewhere in between. In any case, the time limit is shown in the lobby as part of the tournament stats so players can tell before sitting in whether or not they’ll actually be able to see the entire event through.

To celebrate the launch of this new style of online poker tournament, Poker Stars is giving away free entries into one such event to all players making a deposit of at least $30 into their account using the promo code TIME. The deadline for this is October 28.
This weekend, on Saturday, October 22, 2011, Poker Stars also adds the Saturday Countdown, with a $10K guaranteed prize pool for only a $22 buy-in.

The America’s Cardroom Halloween Party happens, of course, on October 31, during which time players at any of America’s Cardroom’s tables or tournaments will earn double the number of points they ordinarily would for playing those same games at the same stakes for the same lengths of time.

In addition America’s Cardroom is also gearing up for this Halloween double points extravaganza with a Special Halloween Freeroll tournament taking place a few days prior to the big event, on Friday, October 28, 2011 at 6:00 pm ET. Participants in this event will be competing for one of ten seats into the America’s Cardroom $3,500 Guaranteed tournament that takes place later that evening at 9:00 pm ET.

Party Poker Launches WPT Five Diamond Satellites

Last Updated on

It’s time for another satellite series to take place for another esteemed World Poker Tour main event. This time the event is the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic happening in Las Vegas, Nevada between December 6th and 11th, 2011.

Players winning Party Poker prize packages into the WPT Five Diamond will receive, in addition to the $10,300 buy-in into the main event, accommodations for 7 nights at the Bellagio, where the tournament will be taking place, and $2K in expense money. That’s a $14,000 value for each prize package.

These prize packages will be awarded at Party Poker’s WPT Five Diamond Satellites, taking place every week between October 17th and November 20th, 2011 on Sundays at 3:20 pm ET. These satellites have a direct buy-in of $700 + $50 but players can win their way into the event for cheaper than that via daily satellite qualifiers for $80. These award one player in ten seats in the satellite where one prize package is guaranteed to be given away each time.

Likewise players can win their way into the satellite qualifiers as well via a choice sub qualifiers. Both are daily events and both are speed events, although one, with a $3 buy-in, has rebuy whereas the other, with a $9 buy-in, does not. Players can even win their way into the $3 sub qualifier speed rebuy event via freeroll WPT Five Diamond Freeroll tournaments, also running daily. The highest 25 finishers at each freeroll will advance to the next stage of the series.

Merge Poker Network Allowing New US Sign-Ups

Last Updated on

The Merge Poker Network had quite an increase in terms of their poker traffic in the month after Black Friday hit the United States poker population.  To put this statement into numbers, you can look at the 79 percent increase in their cash game poker traffic in just that month after April 15th.  While the three biggest online poker sites out there found themselves in quite a bit of trouble, Full Tilt Poker is no longer running, Absolute Poker shut down, and PokerStars is the only one of the big three to be able to make it past the fall out.  When online poker players in the United States were searching for places to go, the Merge Network offered them a few great options.

The Merge Network has a few well-known poker rooms under it, including Lock Poker and RPM Poker.  The only issue with the fact that these sites allowed US sign-ups after Black Friday, is that they were overwhelmed with new sign-ups, and couldn’t keep up with processing the incredibly high number of payments that were coming on the site.  Merge was on a two week back log of cash out requests, and found themselves having to make a decision.  They decided to stop allowing new US sign-ups at this point, in order to catch up on payouts, and hopefully be able to re-open in the near future.

It seems that the Merge Network has finally caught up on their payouts, and is now accepting new US players onto most their skins.  It will be interesting to see what kind of impact this will have on the poker rankings for the Merge Network, as they are currently sitting at 12th in the overall cash game traffic rankings.  Their current ranking though, actually puts them at the top of all online poker sites who accept US players currently, with Bodog sitting in 13th, and the Cake Poker Network in 20th.  Bodog is actually heading OUT of the US market at the end of this year, which could potentially send even more traffic to the Merge Network.

Bodog Poker Introduces Mega Micro Stakes

Last Updated on

Bodog Poker has just introduced a new promotion called Mega Micro Stakes that promises players a shot in $10,000 worth of freeroll tournaments. The Bodog Poker Mega Micro Stakes promotion runs from October 17 to November 13, 2011. Each week participating players vie for seats in a $2,500 freeroll.

Here’s how the Bodog Poker Mega Micro Stakes promotion works: play in any micro stakes games at Bodog Poker and you’ll earn poker points as you always do at the site. Then you can earn one of two different bonuses each week based on how many poker points you’ve earned. Either you’ll get a $10 bonus for earning 30 poker points or a $20 bonus for earning 50 poker points.

For those same 30 poker points that guarantee you at least a $10 bonus, you also gain entry into that week’s $2,500 Mega Micro Stakes freeroll tournament, which takes place the following Tuesday at 8:40 pm ET.

Micro stakes games are all single table tournaments and multi-table tournaments with buy-ins of less than $5 (not including any fee.) Micro stakes fixed limit ring games have stakes of below $0.25 / $0.50 and no limit ring game micro stakes are under $0.10 / $0.25.

You earn Bodog Poker points (PTS) three different ways. The first two are by playing in raked hands in cash games, by paying tournament entry fees. You also simultaneously earn PTS for simply spending time playing at Bodog Poker, with 1 PTS earned for every 60 minutes spent playing online.

The Party Poker WPT National Bohemia satellite series runs from October 10 to November 6, 2011. It starts with daily qualifiers costing only $1 to buy-in. That next stage is the WPT National Bohemia Satellite Qualifier, taking place daily and as a Turbo tournament on Sundays. It costs $18 to buy-in directly and advanced 1 in 10 players to the next stage, the actual WPT National Bohemia Satellite where at least one prize package is guaranteed to be awarded. WPT National Bohemia will take place November 18 – 20, 2011 at the King’s Casino located right near the Czech / German border in Rozvadov, the Czech Republic. Each $3,000 prize package into the WPT National Bohemia will include the $2,100 buy-in into the main event, hotel accommodations while the tournament is taking place and $400 for expenses.

Winners are responsible for their own transportation to the Czech Republic for the event and are affirming by playing in these satellites and qualifiers that they will be able to attend if they do win a prize package. Prize packages are non-transferrable and non-refundable for any cash value.
