Party Poker Aussie Millions 2012 Satellites Begin

Last Updated on

Party Poker has now joined the handful of poker sites offering satellite tournaments into the 2012 Aussie Millions in Melbourne, Australia. Each Party Poker Aussie Millions 2012 prize package, which includes the $11,400 buy-in into the main event, is valued at $16,000.

The Party Poker satellite series for the 2012 Aussie Millions runs from November 21, 2011 to January 8, 2012. It features a weekly Aussie Millions Satellite with one seat in the main event guaranteed to be awarded at each Sunday running. In all, Party Poker will give away one seat in the Aussie Millions for every 25 players competing in these satellites, which start at 15:10 ET and have a $640 + $40 direct buy-in cost.

Of course, players can avoid that buy-in by playing in earlier stages of the satellite series, with daily events ranging in entry from freerolls to $68 + $6 satellite qualifiers. The Party Poker prize package into the 2012 Aussie Millions also includes 8 nights of hotel accommodations at the Crown Promenade, right next door to the Crown Casino where the event is taking place, and $2,500 to spend as you see fit.

Party Poker is also holding a separate satellite series just for players who already live in Australia. They run from December 18, 2011 to January 8, 2012. These Australian player satellites award $14,000 prize packages that are identical to the packages for non-Australian residents except that the cash stipend is smaller, $500 instead of $2,500. These satellite run separately from and independently of the regular Aussie Millions 2012 satellites.

Potential Deal Between Groupe Bernard Tapie and Full Tilt Poker Set

Last Updated on

It seems that there could potentially be good news on the horizon for Full Tilt Poker, the Groupe Bernard Tapie, online poker players, and fans of the game in general.  The two sides in the potential sale of the massive online poker site have gone back and forth for months now, but it could be winding down, pending an agreement with the US Department of Justice.  There has been a potential deal set, and while we haven’t finished the deal just yet, this is much farther than anything we’ve come close to in the past.

This sale of the site is set for $80 million in the new deal, which was reported by the Groupe Bernard Tapie’s attorney Benham Dayanim, and it would mean that the group would release claims to the assets which were seized by the DOJ.  The first thing that needs to be considered before any final movements are done, is getting the online poker site re-licensed.  The issue with this is that the site was originally with the Alderney Gambling Control Commission (AGCC), who has revoked their license currently; and their secondary license was through the Kahnawake Gaming Commission, who must have a primary license along with it.

With the good news for everyone, comes the unfortunate bad news as well.  This starts with the fact that it may not benefit American players nearly as much as they were hoping.  The issues could come from players getting paid back, because with this deal the repayment of US poker players will have to come from the Department of Justice.  In order to have any shot at getting your funds back, players are going to have to apply to get them, and it’s uncertain as to how well it will all work out in the end.  On top of that, the international players may have a tough time getting repaid as well.  This is because it has been said that the site will still owe $390 million, and even with the $150 million that the DOJ is supposed to handle in this new deal; they would still owe around $240 million, which is a pretty penny in terms of having to pay everyone back.

All in all, it’s looking like the potential is growing, so we should stay optimistic for the potential return of Full Tilt Poker to the online poker world.

Cake Poker Now Allows Hand Tracking Software

Last Updated on

Cake Poker is incredibly popular among the United States poker players today, but one thing that made them a bit different than many online poker sites was the fact that they did not allow players to use Hand Tracking Software.  The site had decided to avoid allowing players to use this for years now, until just this past week.  Cake Poker created a brand new policy, which in turn would allow their players to use Hand Tracking Software such as Poker Tracker and Hold’em Manager.

This software gives players the chance to collect information about the players who they are up against in cash games or tournaments, and saves the information.  Players have the option to go back and watch how hands were played, and also to see what their opponents were holding in their hand, if the hand went to showdown.  It also gives information on bet sizes, chip stacks throughout the hands, community cards, and what the final result was.  One of the other popular features that these programs offer, is the ability to track your wins and losses for the day, week, month, or year.  This helps players know when their game is improving, or if they have not be playing incredibly well as of late.

Another thing that the software does is allows players to use a Heads Up Display (HUD).  This HUD gives players information about opponents at their table ranging from their pre-flop raise percentages, aggression factor, and often they play a hand in general.  The HUD is where the complaints have come from mainly, with recreational players feeling that it gives professionals an unfair advantage.  Of course, the argument from the other side is that this software is available to everyone and anyone who wants to purchase it.

It will be interesting to see how this affects Cake Poker’s online traffic in the upcoming months, and also if it fills up their high stakes tables as well.  Cake Poker does allow recreational players the option to avoid being tracked though, by letting them change their poker screen name every seven days.  In the end, this could be good news for both types of players, and should keep Cakes’ online traffic growing!

Party Poker Premier League Underway

Last Updated on

Party PokerPartyPoker.com is one of the largest online poker sites in the game right now, falling just behind the mega site PokerStars.  Their cash games draw an incredible amount of attention from high stakes players, and their tournaments offer excellent guarantees as well.  While they do handle the whole “online poker” deal very well, this time they have taken to some live action with their PartyPoker.com Premier League Poker Mixed Game Championship.  The action runs from November 13th to November 17th, and is played at the Playboy Club London in Mayfair.  What makes this event so exciting is that it is an invitation only event, which also features a $25k buy-in, so it is sure to draw some of the biggest and best names in poker.  It features three of the most popular games out there, starting with No Limit Hold’em, Pot Limit Omaha, and Pot Limit Hold’em.

The rosters kick off with 12 players that are divided into two side teams of six.  They are called “heats” and the two heats will compete in the Premier League against the other players in their heat.  At the end of the action, the top three players from their respective groups will then play at the final table.  To make things even more interesting, any player who makes it to the final table will receive a  minimum of $25k for their efforts in prize money, and will also win an invite to the Premier League next year.

Now for the layout of the two heats:

Heat 1- Matt Giannetti, Tony G, Jennifer Tilly, Luke Schwartz, Max Pescatori, and James Dempsey

Heat 2- Mike Sexton, Sorel Mizzi, Andy Frankenberger, Andrew Feldman, Ben Carpenter, and Yevgeniy Timoshenko

And last but not least, is the prize pools for any of the 12 players who make it to the final table:

1st place: $100k

2nd place- $65k

3rd place- $45k

4th place- $35k

5th place- $30k

6th place- $25k

This is an interesting concept for a poker event, and it should draw quite a bit of interest from the poker world.  It also helps that it has some of the hottest names in poker right now from the likes of Giannetti, Frankenberger, Mizzi, and Tony G.
