Cake Poker Holds Irish Open 2012 Satellites

Last Updated on

In an earlier post about satellite tournaments at Cake Poker for the 2012 Aussie Millions, we informed you of the site’s approaching Irish Open 2012 satellite series as well, with a promise to provide more detailed information as that time neared.

Well it is now upon us: the Cake Poker Irish Open 2012 satellite series is on, with prize packages valued at $6,000 that cover the €3,500 buy-in into the main event, accommodations and expenses. Unlike many poker sites that require satellite winners to attend the event to which they win a prize package, with no cash redemption value, Cake Poker delivers all the winners’ prizes in the form of $6,000 cash deposited directly into their CakePoker accounts. Players can choose to use that $6,000 to attend the Irish Open, keep that $6k in their player account and use it for playing more online poker at CakePoker, or they can withdraw the money as cash and use it in whatever other way they like.

This is Cake Poker’s fifth year holding satellite tournaments into the Irish Open, which happens to be the longest running live poker tournament in all of Europe, started in the early ’80s when three poker legends: Doyle Brunson, Amarillo Slim and Stu Unger too annual pilgrammages to Dublin, Ireland over Easter to play high stakes poker against some of Ireland’s best poker players.

The $6k Cake Poker Irish Open 2012 satellites take place January 8 and 22, February 5 and 19, and March 4 and 18.

Poker Stars Launches $100,000 Depositor Freerolls

Last Updated on

Pokerstars is now holding four special freeroll tournaments per day, each with a $1,000 guaranteed prize pool. To earn tickets into all of these freerolls for a 31-day period, a player need only make a deposit into their real money PokerStars player account. This promotion is open to new and existing players both.

New players should use the promo code STARS600 when making their deposit so that they’re also still eligible to receive the regular Poker Stars new player bonus: a 100% match up to $600. Existing players making this deposit as a reload deposit should just use the code 100K.

Whether a new or current PokerStars player, after your initial 31 days of four $1,000 freerolls per day is complete, simply reload your account with an additional deposit and you get to play in all the freerolls for the next 31 days.

You can do this once per month, allowing you, if you wish, to play in all 4 daily $1k freerolls indefinitely.

PokerStars’ $1,000 Freerolls utilize a freebuy format which means that within the first 1 hour of play, any player can rebuy as much as they want for a cost of $0.30 each time. That $0.30, of course, is then added to the prize pool.

The $1,000 Freerolls can be found in the PokerStars lobby under Tourney and Freeroll tabs and take place at 04:00, 10:00, 15:00 and 21:00 ET each day.

Remember, this is only happening for a limited time. Make your deposit before April 19 to get a full 31 days of freerolls in. You can still make qualifying deposits after that time, but you’ll only get as many days of freerolls as remains until May 20.

Last Updated on

With the start of 2012 comes the anticipation for the 2012 World Series of Poker. And 888 Poker is wasting no time in pooling players to send to the next WSOP Main Event.

Every other Sunday, 888 Poker holds a 2012 WSOP qualifier at 20:05 GMT. The buy-in is $500 + $25.

Players can avoid that direct buy-in and win their way into the qualifier through any number of lower cost satellites. Satellite buy-ins start at just $1 + $0.10 where one player for every $25 in the prize pool will advance to the next stage. There’s also a $5 + $0.50 stage 1 event that advances one in five players to the next stage.

Step 2 satellites cost $23 + $2 to buy-in directly and advance 1 in 5 players to step 3, which in turn costs $105 + $10 to buy-in directly and advances 1 in 5 players to the 2012 WSOP 888 Poker Qualifier.

At each 888 Poker World Series of Poker 2012 Qualifier, one prize package worth $15,000 will be awarded. That value includes the $10,000 buy-in for the 2012 WSOP Main Event, $2,000 cash to apply toward travel expenses, $500 more in cash to apply toward other expenses, 8 nights of accommodations during the event, access to a special 888 Poker player lounge, an invite to a special 888 Poker VIP party, and an 888 Poker live event merchandise kit.

The prize pool for the 2012 WSOP Main Event is projected to be around $180 million.

Party Poker World Poker Tour Denmark Satellites Start

Last Updated on

The Party Poker satellite tournament series for the upcoming World Poker Tour stop in Denmark has begun. Running from January 9 to February 19, 2012, the Party Poker WPT Denmark satellite tournament series awards at least one prize package to the event per week.

Each prize package into the WPT National Series Denmark is valued at $3,500 and includes the $2.2k main event buy-in, $550 cash for expenses, and accommodations for four nights. The WPT National Series Denmark takes place from February 28 to March 3, 2012.

The WPT National Series Denmark Party Poker satellite where one prize package is guaranteed to be given out takes place on Sundays at 15:10 ET for a $190 direct buy-in. One prize package will be given out for every $3.5k collected in the prize pool. Players are allowed to win as many WPT National Series Denmark prize packages as they are able to. After the first package, which the player must accept according to the terms stated, attending the WPT Denmark as agreed, all subsequent prize packages are deposited into the player’s real money Party Poker account as tournament dollars for the value of the package, in this case $3.5k.

Players can avoid the $190 buy-in for the WPT Denmark satellite by winning their seat in the event through a satellite qualifier. There are sub qualifier speed events with and without rebuys and even freeroll qualifiers that players can enter as well. That means, a player at Party Poker can win a seat in the next World Poker Tour event in Denmark for absolutely nothing.

Yatahay Poker Network is now the Winning Poker Network

Last Updated on

San Jose, Costa Rica – January 12, 2012 – In a move reflective of its industry-leading product offering and proven dedication to the online poker community in the United States, the Yatahay Poker Network has announced a name change. Effective January 2, 2012, the Yatahay Poker Network has been renamed The Winning Poker Network.

“It’s more than a name, it’s a mantra,” stated a spokesman for The Winning Poker Network. “Our promotions are better, our guarantees keep getting bigger, and our software delivers everything players ask for. Players who love to win are hitting our network in record numbers and the entire poker world has good reason to be excited about what’s ahead.”

The name change is a natural fit for a network that has grown substantially since early 2011. After the fall of the big three last April, the Yatahay Poker Network positioned itself as the best destination for US players looking for a safe, secure and fun online poker site. It did so by substantially improving its software, by acquiring respected online poker site DoylesRoom, and by committing big money to growing its online poker community.

The online poker network has seen substantial growth, thanks in large part to its desire to be the top online poker destination for US players and those around the world. Players at The Winning Network’s online poker sites—including Americas Cardroom, and others—have seen prize pools in tournaments grow on a monthly basis over the last six months.

While the name is new, the online poker network has a stellar history of servicing online gaming customers. Established in 2001 as Yatahay, The Winning Poker Network offers cutting-edge software to operators that wish to offer online poker and casino games. The Winning Poker Network boasts a full-service operation catering to customers amongst established gaming operators.

Pokerstars Makes Changes, Causes Uproar

Last Updated on

Pokerstars caused a bit of an uproar to mark the turning of the calendar when last week (which was also last year) the site announced certain changes to its VIP program and its rake structure.

In a Bank of America style backlash, PokerStars players came out to the online forums by the scores to protest the actions.

One of the two controversial changes was from the former “dealt” method of calculating VIP Player Points (VPPs) to a new “weighted contributed” method. In the dealt method, all players dealt cards in the hand received an even share of the VPPs for that hand. In the weighted contributed method, those same number of VPPs are distributed, instead, according to how much money each player put into the pot. Players who fold before the flop will now receive none of the share. All of this obviously disadvantages tighter players by encouraging lots of action.

The other controversial changes were to Poker Stars’ rake structure. Designed to simplify the process on PokerStars’ end, the changes that include lower rake percentages and new rake caps seem only to reduce the amount of rake most players will be able to get.

By the same token, even a Poker Stars representative admits that the new VPP calculation method will have the effect of reducing the number of VPPs awarded in any given period as well.

PokerStars’ reaction to the protest? Poker Stars is moving forward still with the change to the VPP calculation method but has decided to put its rake structure changes (including the caps) on hold pending further study.

America’s Cardroom January Promotional Reminder

Last Updated on

The January 2012 promotional calendar at America’s Cardroom includes a weekend of double guarantees, a special $75k guaranteed tournament and the continuation of holiday cheer started at the end of last year.

Double Guarantees Weekend takes place at America’s Cardroom between Thursday, January 5 and Sunday, January 8. During that four-day period, every single guaranteed tournament will have double its normal guaranteed prize pool.

Then, on January 29, America’s Cardroom will host a special $75,000 guaranteed tournament. The buy-in is $100+9, although the site will be hosting satellites throughout the month for as little as $2+0.20.

The calendar may have changed year’s but America’s Cardroom started one promotion back in December of 2011 that is still running strong in January of 2012. That’s its Secret Santa contest in which each player can win up to $15,000 personally. Simply accumulate as many FPPs (Frequent Player Points) as you can at America’s Cardroom over the month of January, 2012. Earn at least 2,500 FPPs and win a guaranteed cash prize. Prizes go up from there as you accumulate more FPPs and surpass more milestones.

At some intervals, like 3,000 FPPs, 20,000 FPPs, 60,000 FPPs, 175,000 FPPs and 750,000 FPPs, the site will award players special mystery surprises in the way of randomly assigned cash awards of up to $10,000 each. By the time a player reaches the final milestone of 2,200,000 FPPs and attains its $2,000 prize, he or she will have amassed some $15k in cash.

Players do not have to turn in their FPPs to receive their Secret Santa rewards. Instead, players get to keep all the FPPs they earn in January as well as receive the prizes associated with them in this promotion.

Intertops Poker Hosts Match & Win Jackpot Edition

Last Updated on

In January, Intertops Poker is running a Jackpot Edition of its regular Match & Win game promotion. What makes this Jackpot Edition so special is the addition of a jackpot awarded to players who receive an Ace as one of the January gold cards.

Only January 2012 gold cards are eligible for the Jackpot Edition of the Match & Win game. Fortunately, there are multiple aces of each suit in the January 2012 deck, so there is ample opportunity for players to win. What’s more, each player can win each prize on the Match & Win game board, including each jackpot prize, once over the course of the month. That means if a player manages to collect all four aces, he or she will get $12,250 in instant cash prizes.

The Ace of each suit has a different instant cash prize associated with it. Each Ace of Clubs awards $250, each Ace of Diamonds awards $500, each Ace of Hearts awards $1,500 and each Ace of Spades awards $10,000.

Players earn gold cards at Intertops Poker’s real money cash game tables; tournaments and sit and gos do not qualify for gold cards. Players can also purchase gold cards at The Exchange, although gold cards obtained this way cannot be used for any Match & Win game prize, Jackpot Edition or otherwise.

Besides the instant jackpot for aces, Intertops Poker will award a number of other prizes, including cash, over the course of the month of January 2012 through other prize-winning gold cards and gold card combinations appearing on the January 2012 Match & Win game board.
