Cake Poker’s online satellite tournament series for the upcoming Aussie Millions 2013 is underway.
The 2013 Aussie Millions runs from January 12 to 30, 2012 in Melbourne, Australia. This will be the 10th annual incarnation of the event, which this time around projects a $2 million AUD prize for first place and an estimated $20 million AUD prize pool.
Satellites run daily through Dec 18th at Cake Poker for this upcoming main event, with buy-ins starting at just $0.20. Players can also choose to buy-in directly to the Aussie Millions $16,000 final for a buy-in of $250 + $18. These finals take place on the last Sunday of every month at 4 pm ET and award one 2013 Aussie Millions prize package for every $16k in the prize pool.
Or you can win a seat via a semi-final, running a 5:00 am, 1:00 pm, and 9:00 pm every day for a $40 buy-in. Or win a seat in that event through a rebuy/add-on satellite costing $11 to enter. Or you can win a seat in that event through one of two different Aussie Millions $16K Semi-Qualifiers, both taking place daily every 4 hours, one for $6.50 and the other, a rebuy/add-on event costing $2.20 R&A to enter. Of course, you can always start off with the super satellite costing just $1.10 or $0.40 with rebuys and add-ons.
Each Cake Poker Aussie Millions prize package winner will receive the $10,600 AUD buy-in for the No Limit Hold’em Main Event, plus some extra money to help with expenses for travel and accommodations as well as entry to a 10th Anniversary Aussie Millions VIP Player Party.
The 2012 Aussie Millions $100k buy-in event drew in only 22 players, but it was some of the biggest names in all of poker who participated. We saw the likes of Jason Mercier, Phil Ivey, and Erik Seidel all eliminated before the final table was decided, but even the remaining eight had some power behind it. Our final table included Joe Hachem, Gus Hansen, Sam Trickett, Sorel Mizzi, and Tony G to round out the “popular” players, but we also had three up and coming players in Dan Smith, Mikhail Smirnov, and Nam Le who were right there in the action as well. The final table was made up of eight players, but only four were going to make the cash when all was said and done. The total prize pool was a very nice one, with first place getting paid out over $1 million for whoever could outlast the other 21 players.
The action started with Hansen and Hachem leading the field with over 535k chips a piece, and after that the closest was Dan Smith was 346,500 chips. After that everyone fell under 270k with Smirnov holding 265k, Mizzi holding 228,500, Tony G with 102k, and Nam Le and Sam Trickett rounding out the field with 79,500 chips and 73k chips respectively.
When we finally made it down to the cash it was Hachem, Tony G, Smith, and Smirnov who were the final four. Dan Smith simply went to work, and eliminated both Tony G (4th place), and Hachem (3rd place) to set up the heads up match between him and Smirnov. Smith’s hot run continued on as he seemed to hit all of the cards he needed and make all the right plays at the right times as well. Smith went on to knock out Smirnov in 2nd place, and take home the win and the $1,012,000 first place prize. Smirnov received a nice consolation prize of $616k as well though.
This was definitely the biggest win of Smith’s live tournament career, but he has had some nice finishes outside of this big score as well. Winning $1 million over a two day span will typically be the highlight of most players’ careers, but before this Smith had won over $600k on the live poker tournament circuit as well.
This Sunday, December 18, 2011, will be Cake Poker’s final Aussie Millions 2012 qualifier. This is the December Aussie Millions $16,000 Final for a $16K prize package that includes the $10,600 AUD main event buy-in, a ticket to the Aussie Millions 10th Anniversary VIP Player Party and some spending cash to help out with travel and accommodation expenses.
The event starts at 5 pm EST and has a $250 + $18 direct buy-in. Players can still win seats in this event through satellites if they hurry. There are still Aussie Millions $16K Super Satellites running for as little as $0.20, as well as $2.20 and $6.50 semi-qualifiers, $11 satellites and $40 semi-finals. Many of these events have rebuys and add-ons.
The next Aussie Millions takes place in Melbourne, Australia from January 12 to 30, 2012 and features an estimated $2 million AUD grand prize for the first place finisher. The estimated total prize pool for this upcoming event is $20 million AUD.
Also taking place now at Cake Poker is a similar satellite series to qualify players for the 2012 Super Poker Event of Europe, taking place at Citywest Hotel in Dublin, Ireland between February 25 and 26, 2012. Also happening in Dublin next year is the 2012 Irish Open, happening April 5 to 9. And as it happens, Cake Poker satellites for the Irish Open 2012 start on December 18, 2011; yes, the same date as the last chance to get in on a 2012 Aussie Millions Final Qualifier.
Party Poker has now joined the handful of poker sites offering satellite tournaments into the 2012 Aussie Millions in Melbourne, Australia. Each Party Poker Aussie Millions 2012 prize package, which includes the $11,400 buy-in into the main event, is valued at $16,000.
The Party Poker satellite series for the 2012 Aussie Millions runs from November 21, 2011 to January 8, 2012. It features a weekly Aussie Millions Satellite with one seat in the main event guaranteed to be awarded at each Sunday running. In all, Party Poker will give away one seat in the Aussie Millions for every 25 players competing in these satellites, which start at 15:10 ET and have a $640 + $40 direct buy-in cost.
Of course, players can avoid that buy-in by playing in earlier stages of the satellite series, with daily events ranging in entry from freerolls to $68 + $6 satellite qualifiers. The Party Poker prize package into the 2012 Aussie Millions also includes 8 nights of hotel accommodations at the Crown Promenade, right next door to the Crown Casino where the event is taking place, and $2,500 to spend as you see fit.
Party Poker is also holding a separate satellite series just for players who already live in Australia. They run from December 18, 2011 to January 8, 2012. These Australian player satellites award $14,000 prize packages that are identical to the packages for non-Australian residents except that the cash stipend is smaller, $500 instead of $2,500. These satellite run separately from and independently of the regular Aussie Millions 2012 satellites.
The latest poker site to offer satellite tournaments into the 2012 Aussie Millions Poker Championship is 888 Poker. This will mark the 10th anniversary of the Aussie Millions, and the total prize pool is currently estimated to be around AUD $22 million.
The 888 Poker Aussie Millions Qualifier takes place on January 7, 2012 at 09:00 GMT (or 8:00 pm EDT) and has a $500 + $25 direct buy-in. At this event, a minimum of two seats in the 2012 Aussie Millions Poker Championship will be awarded, each worth AUD $10,600. Registration for this event is now open and can be found under the “Live Events” and “All” tabs in your 888 Poker tournamnet lobby.
Players can avoid paying the $525 direct buy-in into the Aussie Milions Qualifier, however, by winning their way into the event via cheaper satellite tournaments. Buy-ins for these satellites start at just $1.10.
The 2012 Aussie Millions will take place January 22 – 28, 2012 at the Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia.
As always with any 888 Poker qualifier tournament, all the usual site terms and conditions and privacy policy apply. The prize for this event is a seat in the Aussie Millions 2012 main event only. Qualifier winners themselves are responsible for getting themselves to Australia for the event and for arranging and paying for their stay while there for the tournament. Players also agree to act as “ambassadors” for 888 Poker throughout their time there, wearing branded 888Poker clothing whenever playing at the main event tournament tables.
Cake Poker is looking for players to send to next year’s Aussie Millions tournament, to be held between January 12 and 30, 2012 at the Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia, where the first prize this time around is estimated to be about $2 million AUD.
Satellites into the 2012 Aussie Millions started at Cake Poker on September 1 and continue through December 18, with buy-ins starting as low as $0.20.
