Now we’ll tell you about a few other results of Card Player Magazine’s most recent annual accounting of the best of the best, namely: the 2012 Player of the Year and the 2012 European Player of the Year.

The Card Player Magazine Player of the Year for 2012 is Greg Merson and the Card Player Magazine European Player of the Year for 2012 is Martin Rettenmaier.

Pro poker newcomer Greg Merson, a 24 year old from Maryland, is also the 2012 World Series of Poker Main Event Champion, although that’s not the only reason for his accolade. He also won another WSOP 2012 bracelet, from the $10K Six-Handed Event, and cashed in two other WSOP 2012 events. Merson closed out 2012 more than $9.75 million richer.

Martin Rettenmaier of Germany, meanwhile, cashed in 18 events in 2012 for a total winnings of $2,503, 015. Besides being named Card Player Magazine’s 2012 European Player of the Year, he also won the BLUFF Magazine 2012 Poker Player of the Year Award. Of those 18 cashes were 4 titles: the €2,000 EPT Grand Final Monte Carlo for $156,186; the $25,000 WPT World Championship Las Vegas for $1,196,858 and the $4,000 WPT Merit Cyprus Classic for $287,784. Those two back-to-back World Poker Tour set a poker record, making Rettenmaier the first to achieve that accomplishment.gm
