Nevada’s (And U.S.’s) Only Legal Poker Site, Ultimate Poker, Continues Hitting New Heights

Last Updated on

up

Ultimate Poker is not just the one and only licensed and regulated online poker site currently operating in the state of Nevada but it’s also the only one in the whole country. And now Ultimate Poker is continuing to break new ground by celebrating 10 million hands dealt with a big $10,000 promotion and the release of a brand new poker software and VIP program to boot.

The 10 million hands celebration is open only to players residing in Nevada, so we won’t take too much time here with the details, but suffice it to say it bodes well for U.S. poker sites to come – and there will be plenty to come – as it shows intrastate online poker rooms capable of emulating the same type and scale of promotional offerings as online poker rooms with international player bases.

The new software Nevada players have to look forward to, as well as the revamped VIP program, are also things for players throughout the U.S. to take notice of, as it reflects what can be expected in other states like New Jersey or Delaware, where licensed and regulated online poker rooms are just around the corner.

The new Ultimate Poker VIP rewards program, incidentally, is called Color UP and offers 8 tiers from White Chip up to Cranberry Chip, with monthly opportunities to advance and two annual prize targets: $10K in rake earning Gold Plaque status and $100K in rake earning Platinum Plaque status. The new Ultimate Poker software update will also include a renovated UP store.

Poker Stars Finds New Jersey Casino Partner

resorts

Formerly the undisputed king of its game, Poker Stars has recently suffered some tough times and has of late been bouncing back with some difficulty from the foils of Black Friday, April 15, 2011. Among those troubles was a rapidly closing deadline to file for a permit with the state of New Jersey to offer online poker legally to residents of the state. The holdup was Poker Stars’ inability to land a deal with one of the land-based casinos in the area: not a requirement for entry into the NJ online poker game, but certainly a foot in the door, and one which its biggest competitors had already taken.

The land based casino that has facilitated Poker Stars’ entry into New Jersey’s fledgling online poker industry is Resorts Casino Hotel, according to a statement released by The Rational Group which owns Poker Stars.

Resorts is also partners with Margaritaville and Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. Founded in 1978 and the first U.S. Casino to set up shop outside of Nevada, the Resorts Hotel and Casino in New Jersey is situated right on the Atlantic City boardwalk. This prime location is sure to be a boon for Poker Stars now as well.

Recently Poker Stars was in talks to strike up a similar deal with the Atlantic Club Casino but that never saw the light of day.

Now that Poker Stars was able to hop on Resorts’ coattails in time to file the necessary partnership details for consideration to go live when online gaming in the state does, its next step is to file, jointly with Resorts, its full application for a permit by the deadline of July 29, 2013.

Online Poker Documentary “Bet Raise Fold” Released

A new independent, feature-length documentary film focuses its lens on online poker players. The movie is called “Bet Raise Fold” and it follows three players – Martin “AlexeiMartov” Bradstreet, Tony “Bond18” Dunst, and Danielle “dmoongirl” Moon-Andersen – all of whom make their living with online poker.

The subject is true to the film’s producer Jay Rosenkrantz’s heart, as he moved to NY after earning his Film and TV degree at Boston University only to make $1 million through high stakes card games by the time he reached the age of 24.

The main conflict of the film is the event known as Black Friday, which took place on April 15, 2011 when the U.S. Department of Justice, a federal agency, pulled the rug out from under the online poker industry’s (and players’) feet, shutting down the most popular online poker sites operating in the U.S. – Poker Stars, Ultimate Bet/Absolute Poker, and Full Tilt Poker – and seizing hundreds of millions of dollars of U.S. player funds that still haven’t fully been returned. Only Poker Stars has completely paid back its players.

From the moment to which many attribute the big boom in online poker – when online poker and satellite tournament winner Chris Moneymaker won the World Series of Poker in 2003, setting the stage for many amateur players turned instant professionals and celebrities overnight. This also occurred just as the televised broadcast of the World Poker Tour was taking off in popularity.

Bet Raise Fold is billed as a “coming of age story for an entire generation of young poker professionals.”

Interestingly, the film was fully funded by the online poker winnings from a group of select pro players.
