Every month 888 Poker holds The Whale, a tournament with a $250,000 guaranteed prize pool. They hold it on the fourth Sunday of every month, which means that the next $250K Whale tournament is coming up in just about a few days: this Sunday, September 22, 2013.

Notice that because September 1st was on a Sunday this year, there are actually five Sundays this month. So this is the time to secure your seat in the event.

888 Poker’s $250K The Whale takes place at 18:00 GMT this Sunday for a $530 direct buy-in. Registration is open now. Players start with a 10,000 chip starting stack and the blinds go up every 25 minutes.

There’s still time to win your seat in this Sunday’s The Whale tournament through 888 Poker’s step satellite tournament series.

Step 1 has a $0.09 + $0.01 buy-in, is a rebuy/add-on event, and takes place all day, every day, at each event awarding one seat into Step 2

Step 2 has a $2.70 + $0.30 direct buy-in, plus rebuys and add-ons, and it takes place all day, every day as well, at each event awarding one seat into Step 3.

Step 3 has a $20 + $2 direct buy-in plus rebuys and add-ons, and also takes place all day, every day, awarding at each event a seat into Step 4.

Step 4 is the final step in the series, costing $100 + $9 to buy-in directly and taking place every day at 11:00, 19:00, and 23:05 GMT, each time awarding one $530 seat in the next $250K The Whale tournament, which right now is this Sunday, September 22, 2013.

World Series of Poker’s Nevada Real Money Online Poker Site to Launch This Week

Last Updated on

The World Series of Poker’s new real money online poker site for Nevada residents, courtesy of Caesar’s Entertainment, will have its official launch this week.

As of this coming Thursday, September 19, 2013, the World Series of Poker’s long-awaited real money poker site is now officially live. Available exclusively to Nevada players for the moment, the WSOP is betting, like all the other Nevada, New Jersey, and Delaware land-based gaming operations getting into the intrastate online gaming market, that interstate and then national online gaming, legal throughout the U.S., will be soon to follow.

The new WSOP real money online poker site is being offered by none other than Caesar’s Entertainment Corp (whose stock has tripled over the past year, no doubt in large part due to this imminent event.) Caesar’s says that they signed up more than 12,000 players for the new online poker site at this year’s 2013 World Series of Poker live at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

After a delay from its originally planned launch for earlier in the year, Caesar’s and the WSOP expressed gratitude to the Nevada Gaming Control Board for the in-depth licensing and testing procedures they implemented.

Nevada passed online gaming within the state in 2011 and that December passed its regulations for online gambling. And while at present the site will only be available to players in Nevada, a pact between Nevada and New Jersey, where online gambling is also now legal, is seen as inevitable, and the WSOP expects its site to offer its services to players across both states by early 2014.

Senator John McCain Discovered Playing Online Poker During Syria Talks

Last Updated on

Here’s some online poker news you don’t hear every day. Arizona Senator John McCain was caught playing the game while involved in a 3-hour hearing on Syria. Testimony from top gov’t officials including Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Martin Dempsey, Defense Secretary Chuck Hegel, and Secretary of State John Kerry was being heard regarding President Barack Obama’s request for permission from Congress to authorize a limited military strike on Syria.

While McCain, a Republican, had previously urged military support for Syria, he told NBC News that he is not in support of the current plan, which he finds too limited, as it prohibits ground combat operations and limits the President’s time frame to authorize the use of force.

Stepping out in front of the story, John McCain tweeted “Scandal! Caught playing iPhone game at 3+ hour Senate hearing – worst of all I lost!”

Laughing at it doesn’t make it okay, Senator. After all, we’re paying the salary he just lost. Actually, not really. In an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, McCain said that while he may host lost thousands of dollars, it was all in play money. Still, the lesson here is obvious: play better poker!

On the bright side, if John McCain can play online poker while at work, maybe that means you can too. Just don’t tell your boss (or his) that I said that.

Who caught the Senator in the scandalous photo losing play money in iPhone poker? That’s also a little spot of controversy. Some says it’s a Washington Post photographer, others say it’s a Daily News Reporter.

Delaware is preparing to offer online poker and online casino gambling within the state by Halloween of this year, and as part of those preparations has just rolled out free play online poker and casino sites to help get would-be future real money players acquainted with the systems the state will be using. These free play games are being promoted on Facebook under the DoubleDown Casino platform, offering play money Slots, Blackjack, and Poker. In a statement released by Delaware lottery director Vernon Kirk, players were assured that when the real money gambling sites go live in the state, a Facebook account will not be required to participate.

The company Delaware contracted to produce the gaming software the state will use for its legal online poker and casino real money sites is 888 Holdings, the company behind 888 Poker and 888 Casino, among other sites. 888 Holdings, as it happens, is one of the states also getting into legal online poker and casino gambling in New Jersey. And the company’s director Brian Mattingly just came out and said after 888 is in Delaware, New Jersey, and Nevada, it plans to set up shop in California, Florida, and New York next.

The new Ding slots, blackjack and poker games (as they’ve also been called) is a product of IGT Gaming, however, the software maker behind the DoubleDown Casino platform on Facebook.

The new free play online poker and casino games in Delaware have been released as a joint venture by all three of the state’s land-based casinos.
