Final Month To Win Dream Car In Americas Cardroom’s Rank Point Overdrive

Last Updated on

November is the final month of Americas Cardroom’s Rank Point Overdrive promotion in which players try to win a $50,000 dream car.

Only one dream car is up for grabs in this promotion and it has yet to be claimed. The first player at Americas Cardroom to earn 3,000,000 rank points (that’s 3 million) will win their choice of dream car worth up to $50,000 in value. The rules are simple: you must be the first to meet that benchmark and you must do it before December 1st, 2012.

That makes November 2012 the final countdown to see whether anyone at all will walk away from this promotion the winner of a brand new car of their dreams.

All the rank points players earn in this promotion are still valid for benefits in America’s Cardroom’s Elite Benefits program, so trying to win the car, despite failing, still comes with its own rewards.

Except in The Beast tournaments where players can earn rank points even faster, players earn rank points at Americas Cardroom’s cash tables and tournaments at a rate of 5.5 rank points for every $1 contributed to the rake taken from each cash game pot or every $1 paid in tournament fees (the number after the “+” sign in a tournament buy-in: e.g. the $3 in $30 + $3). P.S. for all you cash game players–Americas Cardroom uses the Dealt Rake method of calculating rake, which means that as long as you were dealt cards in a hand, you earn equal credit for the rake taken from that hand, even if you fold before the flop.

New Mystery Online Poker Player Rises

Last Updated on

There’s a new dark knight rising in the online poker world. Last year it was the mysterious Isildur1 only revealed after he racked up million of dollars in wins against many of poker most serious players as Viktor Blom. This year it’s the player with the difficult to pronounce username 1Il|1Il|1il|, nicknamed Barcode for convenience. In fact recently Barcode beat Isildur1 out of $173,000.

Starting out on the scene in late 2011, Barcode suffered a brutal $200,000 loss, but if that’s where his battle ended, you wouldn’t be reading this story. He finished out 2011 $1 million ahead and now, in just October 2012 alone (a month that’s not even over yet) Barcode has won $1.2 million so far, $500k of which he earned in just a single day.

Barcode’s player account is registered in Canada making some prognosticators predict that he is a Canadian, but that conclusion isn’t automatically true. There is no word yet on the mysterious player’s nationality, age or, as it happens, gender either. So while we’ve been saying “he” in talking about 1Il|1Il|1il| he could be a “she”.

Other well-known online poker players to lose big to Barcode include Ben “Sauce123” Sulsky and Jens “Jeans89” Kyllonen. Some of the players suspected to be Barcode are Di “trex313” Dang, XBLINK, or even Tom “durrrr” Dwan.

Barcode’s game of choice appears to be Pot Limit Omaha and over the past few weeks he could frequently be found at the $200/$400 PLO tables.

Reid-Kyl Bill: U.S. Poker’s Next Great Hope

Last Updated on

Last week the complete text of the latest U.S. online poker bill: The Internet Gambling Prohibition, Poker Consumer Protection and Strengthening UIGEA Act of 2012, was released. And this week it’s already garnered the support of the Republican Governor of Nevada.

Nicknamed the Reid-Kyl bill after its creators Senators Harry Reid, Democrat from Nevada, and Jon Kyl, Republican from Arizona, the bipartisan bill is the latest attempt to legalize and establish a regulatory framework for legal online poker in the U.S., while maintaining the illegality of most other forms of online gambling.

Among its specifics, the bill would set up an Office of Online Poker Oversight, it allows states wishing to offer online poker to its residents to opt-in to the regulatory framework it establishes, and it makes online poker companies who operated after the passing of the 2006 UIGEA wait 5 years before being allowed to apply for a permit to operate. In all the bill contains 73 pages of regulations.

The bill singles out poker as different from other casino games because of the addition to the element of luck of the element of skill.

Meanwhile, Republican Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval has already come out in favor of the bill, splitting from the position of the National Governor’s Association to pen a letter to congressional leaders urging its passage. The National Governor’s Association had sent its own letter decrying that it would restrict states from pursuing legal online gambling on their own. In Sandoval’s letter he stated that it would be too difficult for states to address all the concomitant regulatory concerns without some federal standard.

WSOP 2012 Championship Finishes Out Next Week

This Monday and Tuesday, October 29 and 30, the Final Table of the 2012 World Series of Poker main event plays out at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Bounced back from its normal spot in November for the election, the event’s esteemed November Nine are this year being called the October Nine.

They include the odds favorite Jesse Sylvia, with 3-1 odds and the largest chip stack of $43.875 million. The chip leader has won 1 of the 3 past WSOP championships (2010’s Jonathan Duhamel) and finished runner-up in the other 2. Silvia’s closest contender is Andras Koroknai of Hungary, the one non-American at this year’s final table holding a chip stack $29.375 million.

But there are still 6 other players at this final table with chip stacks over $15 million so it’s still really anyone’s game. That includes Robert Salaburu of San Antonio, Texas who had held the largest chip stack for the better part of the second half of this year’s main event. It also includes the current 3rd largest chip stack holder Greg Merson, who’s on his way to being named WSOP Player of the Year, after winning more than $1 million already this year. Which brings us to the longshot, underdog Jeremy Ausmus with less than $10 million in his stack.

There is more than $27.25 million in the prize pool for the final table, $8.715 million of which will go the ultimate winner. That makes this the 4th largest prize in the history of the WSOP main event.

Two New Poker TV Shows To Look For

Last Updated on

Recently word has leaked about two completely different kinds of poker TV shows in development that fans can look for in the coming months. One will be live high stakes cash game poker championships played at the Crown Royal Poker Room and the other is a reality show starring poker pro Johnny Chan.

The high-stakes cash games show is produced by Dover Downs Hotel & Casino in cooperation with Poker Pro Championships and launches this Friday, October 26th on the Comcast SportsNet. The series will feature 15 episodes, all of high-stakes cash games played at the Crown Royal Poker Room with millions in cash prize pools and player pools drawing from both professional poker players and amateurs alike, around the country. Of the 15 shows, 3 will feature competition final tables and 2 will feature heads-up final battles.

The reality show was revealed in a so-called “sizzler reel” presented to the poker community this week. It’s to be called “Full House” (not to be mistaken with the ’80s sitcom, of course) and will follow the daily progress of 5 young poker players who will be living in the house of 10-time WSOP bracelet winner Johnny Chan, and competing against one another in daily poker tournament events.

Chan will stake each player $200,000 at the start, and each night, 2 of those players will compete in a 9-hand event that invites players at home to join in. Any player (from the show) who loses their entire $200,000 stakes is kicked off the show.

Bally and Mohegan Sun Sign Deal For Free Online Poker in Vegas

Last Updated on

Nevada is getting ready to become the first state in the United States offer legal online gambling within its borders, or “intrastate” online gambling, including online poker. In preparation, an East Coast casino operator, the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority (which owns the Mohegan Sun Pocono Downs in Pennsylvania and the Mohegan Sun complex in Connecticut) has just put its signature on a deal with Bally Technologies, which is based in Las Vegas, Nevada, to offer customers a free play online poker offering.

Ready to launch in the start of 2013, this new offering will mark the first foray by an East Coast gaming organization into online poker. It’s too early to say whether this will actually fly at all, and if it does whether it will be open to Connecticut customers alone or not.

This deal also permits the Mohegan Tribal Authority to utilize the Bally technology to create a mobile outlet for its Internet poker offerings, along with the possibilities in the future for expanding to online video slots, online sports betting, and of course online casino games.

When the U.S. Department of Justice determined in December of 2011 that the 1961 Wire Act only applied to betting on sports, the Governor of Connecticut, Dannel Malloy stated in January of 2012 that internet gaming will most definitely be coming to his state.

In other states: Delaware has passed a full-fledged intrastate online casino gaming law but no companies have stepped up yet to be the first to offer it to residents within the state. New Jersey, meanwhile, is still considering the issue, while Florida has already gone so far as to reject the possibility altogether.

Republican Senator Heller Says He’ll Work With Democrat Reid To Pass U.S. Poker Bill This Year

Last Updated on

In an interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Thursday, October 11, 2012,Republican United States Senator Dean Heller said that he has confidence that, working along beside fellow Senator, Democrat Harry Reid, get an online poker bill passed this year. Despite ongoing opposition between the two Senators on this very issue, he directly answered a question about whether or not a legal U.S. poker bill will pass this year with an emphatic “absolutely” yes.

Reid had been accusing Heller of failing to get sufficient support for the bill in the Senate, requiring (and falling short of ) the 15 out of 20 Republican votes needed to pass it. Heller, meanwhile, had supported an alternative approach that federally outlawed online gaming entirely, thereby ending the efforts of individual states to pass their own legal intrastate online poker and online gaming bills (what he called a “free for all”, and then create a bill or an amendment making an exception for online poker.

Heller is currently fighting to hold onto his seat against opponent Democratic Representative Shelley Berkley. Assuming he wins – a big assumption? – Heller says voters can expect him to work with Reid to get a U.S. online poker bill passed during the lame duck session of Congress held after the presidential election is over. Heller acknowledges that poker is different than other forms of gambling because players are competing against one another and not against “the house”.
