Cake Poker’s U.S. Players Rerouted To Juicy Stakes Poker

Last Updated on

In the latest U.S. online poker news, flagship site of the Cake Network of online gaming sites, Cake Poker has now started rerouting all hits from U.S. IP addresses to sister site Juicy Stakes Poker. And all existing Cake Poker accounts still active in the United States will be migrated to Juicy Stakes Poker.

The bad news for U.S. players is this means you can no longer sneak onto Cake Poker. The good news is  you can, apparently, do so at Juicy Stakes Poker.

Juicy Stakes Poker, in case you haven’t heard of this relative fledgling poker site, actually offers most of the same guarantees and promotions as Cake Poker. Juicy Stakes Poker recognizes the Gold Chips and Gold Cards rewards programs and allows players to buy and trade them on The Exchange, just like Cake Poker players. (Can they buy and trade them with Cake Poker players is the next question.)

This migration affects players on the Colt, HiLife and Fugu poker sites as well. Once migrated players download and install Juicy Stakes Poker their current balance from their Cake Poker account will be once again available for use.

Even though Cake Poker already changed its former domain (CakePoker.com) to a European based domain (CakePoker.eu) and all of its players in the rest of the world except the U.S. continue to play there, the migration of U.S. accounts to this other site on the Revolution Network to which the Cake Network sites belong appears to be an effort to corrall their U.S. player base into one place.juicy

Lock Poker Hosts $1.5 Million “The Big Chase” Rake Race

Last Updated on

Lock Poker is now hosting a new rake race promotion called “The Big Chase – Double Agent” that promises to award 52,000 individual cash prizes amounting to more than $1.5 million of the course of December 2012 and January 2013. With 58 individual prize levels each player can advance through, any single player can win up to $75,000 in this event.

In The Big Chase – Double Agent, Lock Poker tracks your MGR earned playing at the site’s real money tables over the course of the promotional period. Every time you hit a certain milestone number of MGR, the site will deposit the associated prize as cash straight into your Lock Poker account.

Lock Poker awards cash prizes every hour in The Big Chase promotion, so there’s no long wait to receive your prizes once earned.

There are only a certain number of prizes available at each level and once they’re won, any players reaching that level won’t win a prize, though they will continue climbing toward the available prizes at the next levels higher. If that’s not enough to impel you to get playing, it also seems the folks at Lock Poker let their existing players get a leg up on the promotion, only announcing The Big Chase on their public website after the prize pools for the first dozen or so of the 58 prize levels had been exhausted But that still leaves more than half the levels remaining.

Next up: we’ll post the full chart of The Big Chase prize levels, requirements and prize amounts.

Legal US Online Poker Stalled Again

Last Updated on

reid

United States Senate Majority Leader and the Democratic Senior Senator from Nevada, Harry Reid, declared on Friday, December 14th that any discussion on a bill to legalize online poker in the U.S. is dead for the current lame duck session of Congress, due to the priority of solving the budget crisis and avoiding the fiscal cliff. In his comments, published in a story by the La Vegas Sun, Reid expressed his personal wishes that the situation could be different and that he is disappointed time won’t allow Congress to address this issue this year.

Reid also mentioned that he, along with fellow Nevada Senator, the Republican Dean Heller, are committed to ironing out this issue in a bipartisan manner and bringing it to the table before Congress.

Until this announcement it still seemed possible that the Internet poker bill that Reid himself drafted along with the Republic Senator from Arizona, Republican Jon Kyl, might still be passed by the Senate at least before Congress adjourned the 2012 session. Opponents of that bill who lauded the announcement that it was, at least for the moment, dead in the water, included Southern Baptist ethicist Richard Land, the National Association of Evangelicals, Focus on the Family, the National Governors Association, and state lotteries.

If passed, such a bill would weaken a 2006 law that mandates enforcement of illegal online gambling, but in a decision by the Justice Department in late 2011, the definition of illegal online gambling was restricted to sports betting alone. US based players can play on any of these online poker sites.

New Jersey Poker Bill Moving Ahead… For Now

Last Updated on

It looks like the state of New Jersey is once again moving ahead with its online gaming bill that would permit online poker and casino gambling within the state. Several times the bill has been stalled in Congress only to be revived, and that is exactly what’s taking place now as an amended version of the bill, Bill A2578, has just been passed by the state assembly on Tuesday, December 4 and now will move forward to the for additional voting.

A leading sponsor of the measure, state Senator Ray Lesniak says he expects the full Assembly will vote on the bill by December 17 and the full state Senate will vote on it by December 20. He’s been quoted as saying, “It’s still not too late for Atlantic City to become the Silicon Valley of Internet Gaming.”

It remains unclear how the bill will fare even if it does successfully pass both houses of the state legislature, as last year New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said that he would veto any proposed state sanctioned online gaming law that arrives on his desk. Christie already rejected a previous version of this same bill. The latest stall came when the state Assembly and Senate passed two different versions of the bill.

US accepted online poker sites

So far, the only other states to pass similar intrastate online gambling legislation have been Nevada and Delaware.

Meanwhile, another nationwide online gambling bill is trying to make its way through the U.S. Congress, with help from the Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D, Nevada).
