Here’s some online poker news you don’t hear every day. Arizona Senator John McCain was caught playing the game while involved in a 3-hour hearing on Syria. Testimony from top gov’t officials including Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Martin Dempsey, Defense Secretary Chuck Hegel, and Secretary of State John Kerry was being heard regarding President Barack Obama’s request for permission from Congress to authorize a limited military strike on Syria.
While McCain, a Republican, had previously urged military support for Syria, he told NBC News that he is not in support of the current plan, which he finds too limited, as it prohibits ground combat operations and limits the President’s time frame to authorize the use of force.
Stepping out in front of the story, John McCain tweeted “Scandal! Caught playing iPhone game at 3+ hour Senate hearing – worst of all I lost!”
Laughing at it doesn’t make it okay, Senator. After all, we’re paying the salary he just lost. Actually, not really. In an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, McCain said that while he may host lost thousands of dollars, it was all in play money. Still, the lesson here is obvious: play better poker!
On the bright side, if John McCain can play online poker while at work, maybe that means you can too. Just don’t tell your boss (or his) that I said that.
Who caught the Senator in the scandalous photo losing play money in iPhone poker? That’s also a little spot of controversy. Some says it’s a Washington Post photographer, others say it’s a Daily News Reporter.
